Here are a few trailers that we looked at too se how many locations were used within it. It's important when looking at location, because this needs to be suitable to where the trailer is set, as well as that, the location always sets the atmosphere, so therefore, it needs be an appropriate choice of location .
Nightmare On Elm Street (2016)
The locations we saw in the trailer was:
- Garden- A garden in a mordern house, which shows that danger can occur anywhere and even in the comfort of your own home.
- House- Wes Craven's idea of a safe location. This contradicts the idea of how you cannot be safe in you own home/street.
- Boiler- This is where the villain is hidden and an important part of the film all together. In addition, the boiler room looks particularly scary, as it is dark and you can't predict what's going to ahppen next.
- Satanic Room - Where all the devil worshping occurs in the film. This is an important aspect/location of the trailer, as this sets an eerie mood throughout the trailer.
- Prison- Shows how the evil can drive you to do sinster things. Also people who have commited unspeakable crimes, end up in prision.
- Graveyard- Deaths occur through out the film, and scary entities appear. (Could be people who were killed by the scarecrow)
Friday 13th (2009)
In this trailer the locations we see are:
- Lake- Has a dangerous aspect to this paricular location, as people could potenitially die by drowning.
- Forest- This creates a scary image of being alone in a forrest. No one could hear you scream if you're in trouble.
- Car- Scenes are usually set in a car, creates the first mood of the film, before it changes into a more frightening atmosphere.
- New Cabin- A more mordern setting for a home. You can;t have spirits in a newly built home. (Safe place/ Wes Craven)
- Old Cabin- Gives off a more petryfying feeling throughout the trailer. As well as that, it creates a scary feeling for the audience, because the particular house looks old and run down. (also where the evil character lives)
- Old Lady's house- She warns them about how dangerous the area is. In addition, old ladies in horrow films are seen as the scary character. This character creates more tension and more terryfying vibes for the other chracters and the audience.
- Tent- Scary happenigs occur when people re outdoors (in the middle of no where) This particula location went well with the whole idea of the killer in the woods.
Emelie (2016)
In this trailer we see very few locations used:
- Car- A car just sets the scene, but can sometimes be an asset to horror films, due to the fact some horrors do start form a car crash.
- House- A safe place, you wouldn't expect any dangerous things to occur. A safe place, a place of comfort, where you feel safe the most.
- Garden- Every house has a garden, could usually be a place to run when running from whatever is coming after you. (Or to try and escape to find help)
- Basement- Bad things usually occur in the basement. Usually seen as the some what a dangerous of the house.
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
The locations we saw in the trailer was:
- Priest's House - This is a very interesting location, as a priest's home is meant to be a safe place, due to the presence of God.
- Haunted House - Where most of the evil happening occur. Again, thbis involves Wes craven's idea of safe enviroment
- Garden - Every houde comes with a garden. This particular trailer used this location well, as the spirit comes to her whist they're on the swing set.
- Basement - This was by far the scariest location in the whiole fim, as it was dark, cold and had a very sisnister feeling towards it. Moreover, there was a flood that happened in the basement, which then had the affect of spirits pulling you into the water.
- Train - Meant to be a safe place, as it is a public place, so no danger could occur.
- Attic - Usually attics and basements are types of locations where evil happenigs could in fact occur.
In conclusion, we have learned that not all trailers don't need to be filmed in various locations. We can apply this to our own trailer, by either filming in 1 or 2 locations or as many as 8. As well as that, emphasising on the importance of location choice, we need to be able to create that perfect atmosphere for our trailer.
