As part of our audience research, we as a group decided to conduct a questionnaire in which we could review in order to gain ideas for our forthcoming trailer. The following shows the results of the 10 individual questions as well as reasoning in terms of steps we as a group have taken as well as steps we will take in order to please the target audience as far as we can while creating a trailer that is new and exciting in comparison to competition trailers within a similar market. 20 individuals were asked all 10 questions to allow for a representative result which includes the same volume of individuals for every question.
The first of 10 questions asked the 20 asked individuals about their gender with 11 responding stating that they were male while 9 responded stating that they are female, non of the asked individuals stated that they were neither a male nor female. The result of this question within the questionnaire suggests to us as a group that while looking at subsequent results, it must be taken into account that more males were asked than females and so the final result for each question will include a heavier average opinion form a male perspective than a female perspective. Furthermore, the result of this question allows us to know that both males and females were interested in taking the questionnaire and so it proves that there is interest from both sexes in terms of the attractiveness of horror.

The second of 10 questions asked the 20 participating individuals about their age at the time of the questionnaires conduction. Out of the 20 individuals asked, 18 stated that they were between the ages of 11 and 18 while 2 stated that they were between the ages of 21 and 30. This result allows for us as a group to know that the results gained from subsequent questions will be the opinion of those between 11 and 30 in which the trailers target audience is included within. Furthermore, this result allows for us as a group to know that with this age range some answers may come from a more mature viewpoint than others and so this element of the audience research should be taken into account by the group when we plan and create our forth coming trailer that partly relies upon the audience research.

The third question result of the 10 asked questions relates to the regularity in which the target asked audience watch horror films. From this question, we as a group discovered that only 2 of the asked individuals watched horror films every week while the majority of the asked individuals (12) stated that they watch horror films every two weeks. In addition to this, 5 of the asked individuals stated that they watch a horror film every month and 1 of the asked 20 stated that they watch horror films less than once a month. This therefore suggests that our horror trailer needs to attract those who don't often watch horror films into wanting to watch them more regularly, this will therefore increase the potential fan base within our horror therefore making the trailer a success.

The forth of ten questions asked within this questionnaire was asked in accordance to the emotions in which the asked individuals felt while watching a general horror film. From this question, we as a group discovered that a total of 11 of the 20 asked individuals stated that they felt nervous during a horror while 2 felt scared. In addition to this, 1 felt confused while one felt disgusted showing that some individuals are more tolerant than others n a horror film situation. 5 of the asked 20 individuals stated that they felt excited during a horror film while 0 felt any other emotion. Therefore, we as a group will try to make a horror trailer that combines these emotions throughout while playing on the nervous emotion in which most of the asked individuals felt while watching horror films and trailers.

The fifth question out of the asked 10 question was related to the locations in which common horror films are filmed in and which of these frightens the asked 20 individuals. From this question result, we as a group have discovered that 13 out of the asked 20 individuals stated that modern homes were the most frightening horror location and when asked many stated that it was because they are meant to be "safe". 3 of the asked individuals stated that forests were the most frightening horror location while 4 stated that abandoned houses are frightening and 0 stated any other location. We as a group must therefore look into using a modern house for elements of our horror trailer to ensure that we are able to satisfy the audiences need to be frightened by our content.

The sixth out of ten asked questions within the questionnaire was in accordance to how the asked individual watched horror, this relates to the people in which the asked individual watch horror with. 2 of the asked individuals stated that they watch horror alone while 1 stated that they'd watch a horror film with only their partner. In addition to this, 2 of the asked individuals stated that they'd watch a horror film with their family and an overwhelming majority of 15 individuals asked stated that they'd watch horror with their friends. This therefore suggests that we as a group must create a horror trailer that enticed the target audience to go and watch the subsequent film in larger groups because in effect, the larger the group the larger the profit from that subsequent film.

The seventh question asked within the questionnaire out of a title of ten was related to how much of the story line should be revealed to the target audience within only the trailer. From the results of this question within the questionnaire, we as a group discovered that 5 of the asked individuals liked the story line of the trailer to expose the film while 5 stated that the story line should be completely concealed. However, 10 (50%) of the of the 20 asked individuals stated that they would like a cross between the two previous options and so as a group it is vital that when creating the forthcoming trailer, we discuss to what extent the story line of the subsequent film is granted to the audience to interest them in the short trailer time scale but to entice them into wanting to watch the entire film.

The eighth question asked out of a total of ten within this questionnaire relates to the horror stories that relate to real life experiences and events. From the result of this question within our audience research questionnaire, we as a group discovered that while 4 said true stories wouldn't lead to horror connecting with the individual and 2 stated that it neither does nor doesn't, 14 stated that if a horror film relates to a true story or has similarities to a true event then then they would feel more obliged to pay attention within the film. This therefore means that we as a group must come up with a trailer that has plausible similarities not only with everyday life but with some experiences in which some or many individuals within the world have experienced first hand. This will encourage the target audience to support the trailer and subsequent film upon its release.

The penultimate question within the questionnaire was asked to the 20 individuals as was asked in accordance with their opinion upon blood and gore within horror. From the results of this question within the questionnaire, we as a group have discovered that 7 of the asked 20 individuals stated that the more horror the better and that 10 of the asked individuals stated that less is more in terms of blood and gore within horror. And while 3 of the asked 20 individuals stated that neither more nor less effects them, we as a group believe that with the majority stating less is more; there is a market in the horror area of film for a genre that uses less blood and gore but often inflicts more mental remembrance upon the target audience.
|
The final out of 10 questions within the questionnaire upon 20 individuals is most likely, the most important question out of all because it individually decided the sub-genre of horror in which we as a group will attempt to recreate for the forthcoming trailer. From this question within the questionnaire, we as a group discovered that 3 individuals wanted blood and gore involved with the sub-genre, 5 wanted a paranormal feel to the trailer, 2 wanted a thriller to cause fear towards the target audience and a (50%) majority of 10 of the asked individuals wanted a supernatural style of horror within the trailer. This therefore suggests that we as a group must head towards the general consensus in terms of sub-genre while still taking into account the other sub-genres.
|
In conclusion, the questionnaire element of the audience research has given us as a group ideas in which to advance upon and develop upon in terms of creating a horror trailer in which the target audience will like and be enticed by, after all a trailer is in place to entice a target audience into wanting to watch the subsequent film. From our results, we as a group need to discuss the sub-genre in which we want to go with in terms of the trailer because supernatural was the most popular. The supernatural sub-genre of horror may be interesting to look into because paranormal has been overdone in the present market and there is a gap in the horror market for a theme that follows such ideas a the "Poltergeist" films, both the original and the remake.
