Paranormal Activity 4 SWEDE
The trailer we chose to recreate was Paranormal Activity 4. We chose to do this trailer as we wanted to challenge ourselves and see how we could use all the filming skills we've developed through the year and putting them them into use in the re-creation of the trailer, by getting it as accurate as we can, shot by shot.
The total number of shots that we filmed were nineteen. We ripped the trailer clip by clip, and made it into a scene. This made it easier for us to film the shot and making sure that we are getting the right angle, lighting and perspective. We also made sure that it was as accurate to the real trailer as possible. The easiest shots that we created were ones such as, the close ups of the female subject, because there wasn't much movement, as well as that most of the effects were done during editing. Another example of a simple shot that was easy to recreate was when filming the final shot, as it was just the female subject was being dragged away, we did this by just having her lie back, and then editing it by speeding up the clip and reversing it.
The more difficult parts to film was when the female subject was being dragged down the hallway of the house, as it was hard to try and recreate the atmosphere. We edited the video to try and make the scenery look more darker, so it would blend in well with the rest of the eerie clips. In addition, the bath scene was also slightly hard to recreate as there were a few health safety issues, for example; when the child led back on the bath, we had to be careful with him getting water through his ears and nose. As well as that we had to be careful when handling the camera, because we didn't want to risk it getting wet from the bath water splashing. To create the effect of the child being dragged down, he just led back into the water, and we took the video clip, and edited it by fast forwarding it to recreate it to what was in the trailer.
In conclusion, overall the task gave us a chance to put our knowledge of what we already know about editing, and put it to use. On the way we picked up some new techniques and little tricks on the software that could help us with our trailer. As well as that we enjoyed copying the trailer and trying to make sure that our version was as close to Paranormal Activity 4's trailer as possible.
